Paddington Businesses Awarded For Greenery

On Wednesday 20 March, businesses in Paddington gathered at the Fountains Abbey Pub on Praed Street to listen to horticultural expert and Manager of London’s Royal Parks, Mark Wasilewski.

Mark, who is also a trustee and long-time judge of both London in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions, enlightened attendees on the power that flowers can have on businesses in Paddington in terms of attracting people and sales.

With 40 years experience working in horticulture, Mark was able to give photographic examples and personal experience’s of how flowers and greenery have had a direct effect on footfall in urban areas. He also spoke of the environmental benefits of greening, it’s ability to improve air quality, peoples perceptions and the well-being of employees and visitors.

Marisa Barrocas, PaddingtonNow BID Operations Manager, took the opportunity to Award Paddington businesses, that had made exceptional contributions to the London and Britain in Bloom 2018 Campaigns. The efforts of the businesses who got involved, Westminster and Window Flowers resulted in a Gold Medal for London in Bloom and Silver Gilt for Britain in Bloom.

The following businesses were presented framed certificates by Mark Wasilewski:

  • Shaftesbury Metropolis
  • The Prince of Wales Pub
  • Hayes Davidson

The most coveted of awards, the Alan Davidson Award for Outstanding Contribution to Paddington in Bloom 2018 was presented to Will Clayton of The Pride of Paddington Pub for it’s incredible floral pub frontage. The award was presented by Neil Hughes, Joint Managing Partner of Hayes Davidson, Alan Davidson’s company based in Conduit Place.

The event, organised by PaddingtonNow BID, was intended to help businesses improve sales, work efficiency and well-being by enhancing the look and feel of the work place outside and in.
